It was 18 degrees on Sunday, so there was just no way I was going outside to take pictures. Instead, I decided to do another round of Splurge vs. Steal - Beauty edition! I am in no way a make-up professional or any kind of beauty insider - I will never claim to be. However, I am a girl that likes beauty products and has tried a ton of them - at every price point imaginable. So I'm merely sharing what's worked for me! I'd love to know what beauty products you splurge on and what deals you have scored - so comment below and let me know!
1. Make-up Sponges!
I actually mentioned these sponges back in one of my "Friday Favorites" posts. The Beauty Blender is one of those tools that literally every beauty guru and youtube make-up star will talk about. I love this tool...don't get me wrong...but at $20 it's more of a "Splurge" item. I also mentioned the Swissco Precision Blending Sponge. At $5.99, it's almost a quarter of the price of the Beauty Blender. Also, this sponge works amazingly well - I am choosing it as my "Blogger Top Pick". Finally, Zodaco offers a two pack of sponges that are different shapes for only $5.99, so that's my "Steal."
Mascara is one of those beauty products that has so many options at so many price ranges that it can become overwhelming. I rotate back and forth between my drugstore mascara and my more expensive choices. On the low end, Maybelline always gets high reviews for it's Great Last Mascara. One of my Maybelline go-to mascaras is the Lash Sensation Mascara. I'm choosing Loreal's Double Extend Lash Extension Mascara as one of my "Blogger Top Picks" because the white end works great for prepping and plumping the lashes before applying actual mascara. My other "Blogger Top Pick" goes to Benefit's They're Real Mascara. This one is more on the splurge side, but definitely worth the investment. I also highly recommend the other splurges below!
3. Self Tanner!
Ok, so I'm not quite ready to trade my sweats for shorts, but nice weather will be here before you know it! You may as well have a tanning plan in place! Confession - I used to tan in tanning beds ALL the time. Throughout high school and college, I was obsessed with keeping my naturally very fair skin tan. My mom tried to warn me about the long term damage I was doing to my skin, but like any teenager / twenty-something, I didn't listen. Now, I am definitely paying the price. Around my late twenties / early thirties, I started to notice brown sun spots on my face...not something you want to see at such a young age. I've spent a lot of money on laser treatments trying to reverse the damage, but some of it is just going to be permanent. So life lesson kids - Don't Tan!! Embrace your natural skin tones or use of these self-tanners when you want a little summer glow!
